3 Tips to Make Your Heart Dance

Your heart is critically important, for obvious reasons. You kind of need it to keep beating in order for you to live.  Your heart can be beating to keep you alive and you still not be "living". To be truly alive and do more than breathe, your heart needs to dance.

So how do you, as a creative, make your heart dance and fully live? Here are 3 of my tips:
  • Tap into the source of your creativity consistently. God created us in His image and He is the ultimate creator. So, we creatives must spend quality time with The Creator and allow Him to lead us and speak into our creative identity. Let God dispel any limiting beliefs you're holding onto about your creative abilities.
  • Clear the Fog. As creatives, we can get stuck in the trap of endless ideas & projects.  This creates what I like to call "The Creative Fog". Creative Fog is paralyzing & limiting because it creates overwhelm and confusion. You don't know where to begin or you jump from project to project and nothing ever gets done. So, instead of enjoying the process, you beat yourself up about not finishing or not starting. One way to avoid doing this is by starting a Dream Journal. Start jotting down the ideas & projects you'd love to do or the types of art you want to create and focus on only one or two things. Keep this one journal JUST for your creative thoughts & ideas. Honor your choice and let yourself get into a good creative flow.
  • Get Used to NO. When you start to clear the Creative Fog, which is simply a way of prioritizing YOU & your heart desires, you are going to have to get used to saying no. You may have to say no to certain events. You might have to say no to obligations that cause you to remain in a Creative Fog. You definitely need to say no to time suckers. There really is no such thing as time management, in my opinion. It's more about priority management. You make time for what's important.
What are the priorities of your heart? Are you honoring them? Are you feeding them? Do you let the needs of others come before yours consistently? It's ok to want to love and take care of others.  That makes you an amazing human. However, if you want to fully live with a heart that dances, YOU MUST PRIORITIZE YOU! When I went through a season that was so full that I could not create, I seriously made my heart sick. It was horrible. My body started to respond causing me to suffer emotionally & physically. Please don't get stuck in that same trap.

I hope you paint! I hope you write! I hope you sing! I hope you create music! I hope you build!  I hope you come up with creative solutions to hard problems! I hope you dance...

What are some of your tips for keeping creativity flowing & your heart dancing?

This post came to me when I wasn't able to read it. Today it popped into my head and I had to go read it. Then I knew why. When it came I was in a creative fog and a life fog. I was mad at myself for being human. I was battling to get out of it, mostly battling myself, but it's not a battle that gets you out of the fog. It is surrender and breathing into your heart, giving it permission to dance. It is having the courage to acknowledge your dreams... what makes your heart happy and trusting God, and yourself with those desires. It is taking that first step when you still can't see. I didn't know it, but yesterday was a day for me to break through some old fog that had kept me slumped over and begin to claim things that I needed for my heart. It got ugly before the release began, but it did. Clarity began to come in places that had been so hidden. Then today He pointed me to this blog post. To confirm. To remind me what was happening, what I had available to claim and step into. To broaden my verbalized and activated desires to include creating because I am a creative... my heart must express that creativity to dance. Thank you Nicole. Your words were so powerful, and God amplified them in a way I wasn't expecting but am delighting in today! Xoxo
